Frederick William Smith, 91, of Wichita, Kansas, took his last breath Thursday January 5, 2023 at home with family. He was born March 6, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of S. Lewis and Ardis (née Wilkinson) Smith.

Fred graduated from Wichita North High School in 1949. He was a Scout leader, Lion’s Club President and volunteer sheriff’s deputy. As an avid bowler, he was a youth bowling coach, league secretary and Bowling Association President. He bowled three perfect (300) games in his lifetime. One of his favorite hobbies was riding motorcycles. He was an American Motorcycle Association field rep and a member of various motorcycle groups, including Retreads.

He was a father to 8 children. He married Barbara J (née Seddon) in May of 1951 and they had Richard, Karen and Sherry. He later married Andelyn Rose (née Jordan) on April 9, 1971. He adopted Jacqueline and Kenneth and had three more, Hugh, Samuel and Susan.

Fred was preceded in death by: his parents, S. Lewis and Ardis; first wife, Barbara; sister, Mary Ardis (Rucus); daughter, Jacqueline (Fernandez); grandson, Jonathan.

Survivors include: wife, Andelyn; son, Richard; daughter, Karen (Schauner); daughter, Sherry (Swartz); son, Kenneth; son, Hugh; son, Samuel; daughter, Susan (Grommesh); 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Private burial services will be held January 17 in east Wichita. A “Celebration of Life” will be on March 5, 2023. Please go to frederickwilliamsmith.com for details and to RSVP to the event.
